Historic Restoration Panel Discussion

Join us in celebrating the 100th anniversary of the completion of our home at 1528 Locust Street on Wednesday, August 26, from 5–8 PM for an evening exploring historic preservation, adaptive reuse, and the ways thoughtful restoration can honor the past while shaping the future.

At the heart of every 21c Museum Hotel is the restoration of a historic building into a vibrant, publicly accessible space where contemporary art, hospitality, and community come together.

The evening begins with light appetizers and a cash bar in the museum. Guests are invited to join Byron Conley, Project Manager at Russell Construction Company, for a guided tour of some of the building’s most historically significant spaces. Along the way, he’ll share stories from the restoration process and insights into preserving the building’s architectural character.

At 6:15 PM, David Charles will moderate a panel discussion in the Main Gallery, followed by audience Q&A. Panelists include Shaun Dodson (Senior Project Architect and Associate, Trivers), Vivian Gibson (historian and author of The Last Children of Mill Creek), Andy Hahn (Executive Director, Campbell House Museum), and Stuart Keating (Executive Director, Landmarks Association). Together, they’ll discuss the importance of preserving historic places, the stories they hold, and how restoration can help build stronger, more connected communities.

Copies of The Last Children of Mill Creek by Vivian Gibson and Mapping St. Louis: A History of the Gateway City in 40 Rare Maps by Andy Hahn will be available for purchase and signing following the program.
