Sip & Tour

Join us for an evening of fun and inspiration at this month’s Sip & Tour. Guests will enjoy a specialty cocktail inspired by an artwork from our current exhibition The Future Is Female, followed by a guided tour of the exhibition.

This month, Idol Wolf lead bartender Cameron Pugh presents A Crown of Her Making, a lightly sweet, citrusy cocktail with a surprising bite inspired by Frances Goodman’s artwork Medusa.

A Crown of Her Making features a prickly pear-infused agave spirit with roasted peach and saffron honey syrup, and lemon juice, topped with rattlesnake salt. Like Goodman’s sculpture, Medusa, the cocktail references the eponymous Greek myth through serpent and stone fruit ingredients. Subtle notes of saffron and honey balance the crisp peach and lemon, while the regionally specific prickly pear infusion rounds out the intense flavor of the agave.

In the myth, Medusa’s trauma was the source of her transformation into “The Queen of the Gorgons” and her stare turns her victims to stone. Many of the ingredients in the cocktail use unusual circumstances to fruit and thrive, but maintain a prickly exterior. Says Pugh, “The mythological Medusa tends to get a bad rap, but like many of those that are called monsters, she used her curse to protect herself from further trauma.”​
