Weaving Workshop
11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Join 21c St. Louis for a weaving workshop with artist Moraa Nyaribo. Learn techniques for creating your own original woven composition, including how to warp (set-up) a personal loom and how to weave using a wide variety of yarns, natural materials, or upcycled items. Attendees can bring their own materials – suggestions include t-shirts, scarves, fabrics, yarn, and dried natural materials. An assortment of yarn will also be available to use. Attendees will leave with a personal loom and knowledge to continue and possibly expand on the techniques learned.
Moraa Nyaribo currently has works on display as part of the Elevate at 21c exhibition at 21c St. Louis. This exhibition series showcases the work of artists in St. Louis and the central Mississippi River region, highlighting the range and depth of visual culture in this dynamic, ever-changing area.
Moraa Nyaribo uses cultural, visual language to reference her Kisii heritage and tell family narratives from the near and distant past. Through her practice, originally based in fashion design, she creates artworks inspired by textile patterns, personal memory, and reviving and celebrating multi-generational traditional practices.
Seats are limited, so tickets are required. Ticket proceeds go to 21c St. Louis non-profit of the month, Urban Land Institute (ULI) St. Louis.
