In Conversation: Jen Everett and Dr. Blair Ebony Smith

Join 21c St. Louis for a conversation between artist Jen Everett and Dr. Blair Ebony Smith on Sunday, April 26 from 11am โ€“ 1pm.

Jen Everett is an interdisciplinary artist working across collage, installation and time-based media. Her work is currently on display in Elevate at 21c in the Billiard Room on the first floor.

In her creative practice, Jen Everett centers relationships between rupture, Black interiority and knowledge production. Through her use of vintage ephemera, especially objects that celebrate the technology and memory of the photo album, the viewer can imagine the sounds of gathering with loved ones. During this special afternoon, Everett and Smith will discuss deep listening, sonics, archives and memory in their individual work and collaborations.

Dr. Blair Ebony Smith (artist alter ego, lovenloops) is a practicing artist-scholar and lover from Richmond, Virginia. As a sample-based sound artist, DJ and homegirl with Black girl celebratory collective/band, Saving Our Lives, Hear Our Truths (SOLHOT) We Levitate for over a decade, Blair deepened her love for Black sound, music and making space for Black girlhood study and celebration with Black girls. Her art and scholarship explore themes of memory, loops, home, collectivity, everlasting love and sound/listening.
